Goodbye Treviso

Thursday 20 February - the atmosphere is not the same because tonight, our trip in Italy ends.

For the last day with our Italians friends we spent the morning with our groups to finish the media project and then we presented it to our classmates.

Then we were free, so some went out to eat while others went home.

However we all had to pack our luggage.

Meeting time was at 5.30 PM in the train station with the last goodbyes.
Everyone was ready to take the train apart from one who was late. We were stressed to miss our train because there was only 1 minute left before departure! But she arrived at last and we rode to Venezia Mestre to wait more than an hour our second train. The night in the train was not as good as the first time because it was the end of our journey.

Is Reality TV for real?

On Friday morning we interviewed ten people in the principal street of Treviso, Calmaggiore, about everybody's point of view on reality shows. The questions were: Do you watch reality tv? What type and Why? Do you think that the french tv offer the same reality? What do you think about it?
We interviewed two different age groups and so we had two different types of answers. The older answered that they don't watch reality because they are not interested. They watch different types of programs maybe shorter because reality finishes too late for them. Moreover they like watching breaking news and documentaries and if they'd want to watch the real life on TV, they would watch films. In addition they think that reality shows don't represent the "real" life, and that it's fake. The younger do watch reality shows because they don't have anything to watch and they think it's funny.
The most widely seen are Masterchef and X-Factor, firstly because people are interested even if they are useless for daily life. People watch Masterchef because they love cooking and the judges and the participants are funny whereas who watch X factor are interested in music.

As a conclusion, reality show is not very important for people and they watch it not to get bored. Our opinion is that we only collected stereotypes and it doesn't represent the thoughts of everybody.

Dreams on the move

To travel is one of the biggest dreams of every teenager , everything starts with the desire of getting to know new people and cultures , therefore a human being is forced to expand horizons by traveling. Based on some interviews we've managed to collect different statistics about a big variety of travelers .

We've noticed that the most desired destination are the hot countries that provide exotic locations and more economic developed countries during all the year. The most quoted places for what it concerns hot countries Hawaii and the islands of the Caribbean are the chosen maybe because they are quite near to the United States . On the other hand , the most visited european capitals are London,Rome,Paris , Dublin and Madrid. The activities that the italians prefer to do on holidays are relaxing , shopping and visiting the monuments that surround and reflect the culture of the city , we also have seen some diffetent kind of people ; someone who wants to be free will enjoy by doing shopping , whereas straight people will visit to increase their knowledge.
Concerning the transports the majority like to take the train for short distances although airplane is more comfortable. Definitely the crisis had affected the people's plans of traveling . The main reasons why people travel and go visiting foreign countries are to unwind and take a break , to see new things , to increase the knowledge and to get to know some new languages interacting with people from all over the world .  Nevertheless we believe that the permanence in other destinations starts when it comes to prepare the trip, decide where to stay and to go with your "companions" "peers" .

The Chinese portrait

Our topic has for goal to know better person who belongs to Treviso and the ones who participate to the media project. We want also to compare French to Italian people and young to adult people. To have a better idea of the differences between French and Italian we have chosen the chinese portrait. It's an original and interesting way for the person to introduce themselves
First of all, the Chinese portrait is a series of question like " tell me what you eat I will tell you who you are". It's an abstract artistic description of a person with details.
We used those questions:
If you were :
A movie
A song
A word
A super-hero
A city
Food
A color
An object
An animal
Something in space
Finally the last question was about a family story (anecdote) or a joke.
Some answers were unexpected and funny at times, but we have generally seen that even if the culture and the age is different most of the answers are influence by the American culture. But older people are may be less influenced and keep their own culture (Italian).
The answers which often returns are black and blue for the color, it can remind peace and serenity. On the opposite the black remind negatives ideas, the sadness, the loneliness and at times the fear.
For the superheroes, Batman represent the richer, Superman the stronger and Cat-woman the independence feminine.

The Chinese portrait permit to reveal some trait of a person with specific details whose make each person unique, even with the communes points .

Any silver lining for Italian politics?

Italy is well-known for political scandals and in this period many changes have happened. The recently formed democratic party, has just elected its new leader: Matteo Renzi, who is going to be the prime minister. What's in store for him?
French and Italian student reporters enquired in Treviso streets and the people they met answered in a similar way.
Some don't trust the Italian government. According to them, this government doesn't care about the population's problems. For them the Italian government must be the worst in the world.
Others thought that the Italian government and the French one are the same, that is to say that they are both hopeless.
Even though a perfect government doesn't exist, efforts can be done to improve the situation, which is still not the case of Italy.

Hanging out at Soffioni's

Every Trevigian knows this popular bar on Piazza dei Signori in the city center.
Waiters love working at night because there are more interesting people and they are quite bored during the morning, because just old people come.
Usually there is a lot of people during the night especially the youngsters, in fact it's amusing.
Foreigners think this place is cool and they would like to return more often.
The good thing about this place is that it's in the center and it's a really beautiful building under arches.
Soffioni is the meeting point for youngsters before clubbing.
Waiters here are really friendly and like to speak with customers.
The bar is divided between the outside and the inside. Usually people prefer stay outside even if it's cold. This because it faces the main square.
In the past, this place was used as a market. If you look carefully, there are lots of holes on the columns because they attached stands.
During the II World War, it was bombarded and rebuilt.
Next to this bar, about some months ago, there was another one, famous as well, but it closed for economical problems, as many other shops.
This is one of the places where rich people usually stop and drink or eat something during the day.
One of the most famous drinks is "Spritz", that is made for the Aperol, white wine and ice. It is drunk as an appetizer.

High ride for Pinarello

The last will be the first
Fausto Pinarello welcomes us in his company outside Treviso in the city of Villorba.  Fausto is a talkative and friendly man who introduced us into the amazing world of bikes and he tells his dad's story.
Cicli Pinarello is an Italian firm specialized in racing bicycles founded in 1952 by Giovanni Pinarello. He raised money when he arrived last at the Tour of Italy and opened a little shop of handmade bicycles in Treviso.
His son Fausto Pinarello started working when he was 17 and  is now the CEO of the company which  is one of the world leading bike manufacturer and supplies top  teams like Sky or Movistar.
The company won the last two Tour de France with Chris Froome and Bradley Wiggins and 10 Grand Boucles altogether.
Now the company exports around 33,000 worldwide. The new fashion of fixed  bikes is also changing Italian lifestyle as teenagers prefer to buy a bike rather than a motorcycle. The Pinarello bike is dubbed  the “Ferrari” of bicycles and the Dogma which is one of their well-known models weighs just 900 grams.
So don’t think the last can’t be the first.

Italy and France: two Education models

We interviewed some students of public and private high schools of Treviso and we discovered that in the private school Pio X youngsters have a trusting and respectable relationship with their teachers.

Through interviews people explained  that they have the possibility of taking an appointment with teachers to solve problems and explain their subjects or to talk about their personal problems. In fact they find that teachers are someone they can confide in.
A girl of the International High School told us her father's story about forcing him to study to achieve his engineer degree. Thanks to this example, we understood that for Pio's students school is an important element to achieve their dreams. For these reasons a lot of students join the afternoon courses to improve their school curricula. The school offers theatre, bioethics classes, music, mathematics, languages, robot courses and a lot more. Private school students usually studies three hours per day, but they don't go to school on Saturday.
Whereas in the public school they study around one hour per day and they do only 27 hours per week. They don't feel completely at ease on talking about their personal problems with their teachers unless they concerned only school. As they study less ours than us, they can dedicate more time to their passions and their hobbies.

From three to eleven years old French and Italian school system is the same, but in Italy the middle school lasts for three years and in France for four, but both has the same program for everyone. In Italy the high school determinate the school career as Italian students have to choose between several courses: scientific, where the maths and the sciences predominate, classical, where they can study the ancient cultures, linguistic, for the ones that like speak and travel, technic, if you want to learn some particular issues such as design, mechanics, fashion, cooking and more.
In France we have two different high School, the professional one and the general one. Our class is in the general course. Next year, we have to choose between three different spinnerets, the scientific one, which is specialized in maths, physics and biology;the economic one which is specialized in social studies and the literary one which is specialized in French, ancient languages like Greek and Latin and philosophy.

In France, we have 35 hours per week of study in class, we start at 8 or 9 and we end at 16, 17, or 18, it depends on our timetable. We think that it's really exhausting because we have to wake up early and to go back lately. Contrarily in Italy, we start at 7'55 and we finish at 13'25 except the Friday where we finish 16'15. If we could choose we prefer the Italian timetable.

EATING OUT IN TREVISO

If you are looking for something typical in Treviso, here are the best places to eat!

During a boring Saturday, teenagers enjoy spending their evening drinking an aperitif at the “Soffioni”, the charming and beloved café’s right in the main square of the city, Piazza dei Signori.
Although youngsters and teenagers are faithful to the traditional and local food, during the last years they have developed a propensity towards oriental cuisines. Japanese and Chinese dishes are becoming a real passion for Italian people around 16-18 years old as well as for tourists.
Furthermore, it has become a matter of fashion rather than taste. Among teenagers if you are able to cook sushi, you are at the top and the best day for a Japanese dinner is Valentine’s Day!
In fact, it is considered by teenagers to be the perfect way of spending a romantic moment with the beloved one.
However, there are several local restaurants in which youngsters love to spend time; they are called “osterie”. There, a wide range of sandwiches and wines is recommended to taste, while chatting or meeting new friends.
The most appreciated dish is the “mozzarella in carrozza”, a fried bread filled with mozzarella cheese and ham which leaves a salty but sweet aftertaste.

During the exchange, our French partners have had the chance to behave like an Italian teenager, and to taste some of the typical dishes mentioned.

Lea’s experience: Sunday evening, I went with my exchange partner at the restaurant “Da Pino” with other Italian people and their French exchange partners. It was an elegant, cosy and chic restaurant in the Piazza dei Signori. The waiters were wearing waistcoat. There was a lot of food that we could choose, but everybody chose pizza. I was not very hungry so I chose to share a pizza “four seasons” with a friend. The service was very fast. It was the first time that I ate pizza in this trip and it was very tasty. For the dessert we took “tiramisu” which was just awesome!

Clotilde’s experience: we were looking for a warm and cosy place to take a rest so our counterparts showed us the Da Sarah. This is a modern and silent shop. The principal is you choose a base (crepe, waffle yoghurt or so) and a perfume (nutella, cherry, strawberry). Then we had to select some candies. I personally chose a crepe with nutella and some chocolate balls, yummy!

Maylis' experience : Our countreparts brought us into a snack bar called “ Tocai”. This is the perfect place to eat : it is cheap, and you have a large choice of sandwiches, hamburgers and paninis in a familiar mood. The waiter was so funny with us. I took a “coccero” which is a hamburger with tomatoes and bacon, that was wonderful and I recommend it.

Treviso is a city in northern Italy and capital of the province with the same name.                                           It’s the pleasant city with many attractions that diserves attentions but which serves the bases for proper living, for trips in surroundings.                                                                                                                   Rebuilt after the Second World War bombing  the town center is a cluster of narrow streets lined with arcades.
The city is surrounded by walls and aquiducts. The Sile River runs south of the city center and its waters are divided into channels whose banks are lined with green houses and banks, weeping willows, fountains and small parks.

Some of the specialities only eaten here include sopa coada, a sap with pigeon meat or various pastas and rice dishes with wild herbs and vegetables, such as risotto with wild asparagus (bruscandoli). With this famous red chicory (radicchio), Treviso prepares many dishes, the most famous one is Risotto al Radicchio. Other pasta courses popular in Treviso include bigoli - thick homemade spaghetti served with duck or sausage sauce, risi e bisi (rice with peas) and pasta e fagioli (pasta with beans).

Abundant amounts of meat are eaten : the most wide spread dishes include assorted meat or grilled meat, slide steck with herbs, but even more unusual products such as baked goose or snail stew.                             Another great product from there areas are cheese : the soft, unripened stacchino and costatella come from the plains, while Montasio and others specialities come from the Mountain area.                                          Fish is not traditional in Treviso with the exception of trout, but given the closeness to the sea, there are also exellent fish restaurants.

Urban Landscapes 2014

1- Time is running

The theme of our photos is time is going by.
We took three different photos with three different times of day. The first one was taken at midday. The second one at 4 pm and the third one at 7 pm.
We can see that these three photos were taken at the same place. We took these three photos at the Grande Arche situated at la Défense, Paris business center.
Each time the weather was different. On the first one, the sky is blue, with a few clouds and we can see a can of Coke in the foreground, it's standing. On the second one it's flat on it's side and the sky is grey and cloudy. Finally on the third photo, the can is crushed and the Arch is shining while the sky is darker.

These three photos show the immobility of objects with time while people move on with their lives.

2- Different aspects of skyscrapers

We decide to take pictures of La Defense’s Towers. These are 3 photos of an urban landscape which were taken from a balcony during different moments of the day. The first one was taken after a raining time with a rainbow above. On the second one we can see clouds in a blue sky above towers. Finally the third one is represented during the evening, with clouds and the moon in the middle.
Although everybody thinks that these towers are always the same and never change, there are many ways to see it. That’s why we took these pictures : to show you that you never observe it with the same eye.
La Defense is a daily landscape, we often notice it and everybody knows it. People don’t really care about these towers because we are too habituated to see it, therefore we want to show you different aspects. For exemple, tourists don’t evalue it with the same eye than the workers.
